Downtown Galax
Galax, Virginia is only 7 miles away and is the Capital of Old Time & Bluegrass Music. Galax offers everything from quaint downtown shops to hiking and great restaurants. Galax, Virginia is home to the oldest & largest Old Time Bluegrass Fiddler’s Convention. Hiking, Biking & Walking the New River Trail State Park is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. Galax is on The Crooked Road, Virginia’s music heritage trail, you will find The Rex Theater, in Galax, which puts on a Friday night show called the Blue Ridge Back Roads. If you are travelling the Crooked Road, stop by and see us! There are many golf courses in the area. Cumberland Knob State Park, The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Blue Ridge Music Center and the New River are all a short drive away. 20 miles to Mt. Airy, NC, hometown of Andy Griffith. Local festivals offer much entertainment and great crafts all throughout the year!

The Rex Theater
Every Friday night from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the City of Galax, Virginia WBRF 98.1 FM sends out 100,000 watts of live old-time and bluegrass music from the stage of the historic Rex Theater into five states and over the World Wide Web.  Listeners may be in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee or as far away as Egypt enjoying the traditional music show from the comfort of their own homes, or they may be sitting back in one of the 475 seats at the Rex.  The show is called Blue Ridge Back Roads and thanks to a faithful group of volunteers, it has become the cornerstone for the revitalization of this 70 year old theater.

Blue Ridge Music Center
The sounds of the Fiddle, Banjo, and Guitar are likely to welcome you when you visit the Blue Ridge Music Center located just 4 miles from Cool Breeze. A must visit place for day time music everyday 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and a Saturday night show each week starting at 7:00 pm . The music center is open May thru October each year .

New River Trail
Southern Virginia’s New River Trail is one of America’s premier rails to trails parks and has been designated as an official National Recreation Trail by the US Department of the Interior. It is also a state park running through Grayson, Carroll, Wythe, and Pulaski counties along the New River. In 1986, the Norfolk Southern Railroad donated the railroad corridor, which originally served to supply the once expanding iron industry to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Blue Ridge Parkway
Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway one of the most visited sections of the National Park System. Split-rail fences, old farmsteads, mountain meadows and scenic overlooks with endless vistas make the Blue Ridge Parkway a popular attraction. The Parkway incorporates numerous campgrounds, picnic areas and trails. Cool Breeze Campground is located in the middle along the Parkway and is the top choice for campers traveling the Parkway to spend a few day visiting the Galax area.

There are many restaurants in the area,  Saddle Mountain Cafe, Dairy Bar, Galax Taste-Freeze, Italian garden, RJ’s Pizza, Galax Smokehouse, The Briar Patch, Creek Bottom Brewing are all good choices.

WBRF 98.1 FM
While in the area listen to 98.1 fm, Located in Galax they broadcast a 100 mile radius Over the Air or Anywhere streaming online thru their website or on the Tune-In app on your phone with Classic Country, Old Time & Bluegrass Music. They also broadcast live from The Rex Theater each Friday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm The Blue Ridge Backroads Show or you can join this show live downtown. Don’t miss The Crooked Road Show each Monday at 8:00 pm with Host Stevie Barr and Country Gold with Tim Frye each Saturday at 8:00 am.

Barr’s Fiddle Shop
Did you come to Galax without a instrument? Then visit Barr’s Fiddle Shop, they have everything you need and will give you lessons. For over forty years it’s been the place to meet and jam or just hang out for a snack. Who knows, you may even see Stevie Barr playing the Banjo.

Felts Park / Downtown Galax
This is the place that everything happens, Felts Park host events like HoustonFest, Old Time Fiddlers Convention, The Lords Area Sale and High Country Lights.

Join the Jam’s
If you play music then come join the jams each night at different towns around Galax. You’ll find new picking buddies and learn in songs. Bluegrass and Old Time you can play & sing till the cows come home.

Churches
There are several local churches that gladly welcomes visitors. Savannah United Methodist Church is just 1/2 mile, Galax & Sparta has Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist & Non Denominational places of worship.

For a great day of sight seeing we offer directions to visit several attractions within a short drive like Sunnyside General Store, Harmons Outlet, Miller’s Bakery & Deli, The Gap Deli, Nancy’s Candy Factory, Red Hill General Store, Mabry Mill & many more.

Mt. Airy, NC / Hometown of Andy Griffith
Located just 20 miles South on NC Highway 89, this is a must see attraction with many things to do. Don’t miss Snappy Lunch home of the Famous Pork Chop Sandwich. The Visitors Center on North Main St. is a good start for Mayberry fans, they have a Andy Griffith Museum. The North Carolina Granite Corp. has the world’s largest open-faced quarry here. Mt. Airy is also home to Mayberry Days in September & The Autumn Leaves Festival in October.

Awesome Places
